The Peer Support Foundation is excited to welcome Pablo, a crisis K9 generously donated by Crisis Canines of the Midlands, to our team. Pablo's primary role is to provide crucial peer support to first responders within their home agencies, assist with incident debriefings, and respond to major traumatic incidents. Additionally, he will offer grief, loss, and trauma support. Pablo will also attend first responder trainings and provide much-needed support during these sessions, making him an invaluable asset to our mission of promoting wellness and resilience for first responders.

Starting a Crisis K9 program like Pablo's costs around $10,000, with ongoing yearly expenses of approximately $1,600 to cover training, care, and support needs. Pablo provides invaluable assistance to first responders, offering emotional support during critical incidents, debriefings, and peer support trainings. His presence helps reduce stress, build resilience, and promote mental wellness for those facing traumatic situations. Please consider supporting Pablo and the Peer Support Foundation with a donation to help continue this important work.

About Pablo

Pablo, a male Standard Poodle born on February 9, 2024, joined the Peer Support Foundation in September 2024 as part of our growing commitment to supporting first responders. Donated by Crisis Canines of the Midlands, Pablo is currently undergoing training and will complete his certification in 2025. Once fully trained, he will be a Nationally Certified Therapy Dog with an additional Crisis Response endorsement, allowing him to provide specialized emotional support during critical incidents. Pablo’s gentle nature and training make him a vital part of our mission to promote wellness and resilience for first responders.

Pablo and Jeremy

Pablo was paired with his K9 handler, Peer Support Foundation President Jeremy Sprague, to support first responders in times of crisis. Together, they will provide much-needed emotional support during traumatic incidents, debriefings, and peer support trainings, helping to foster resilience and healing within the first responder community.

Jeremy Sprague has extensive experience as a first responder, having served in various roles throughout his career. He worked as a fire/arson investigator, fraud/forgery investigator, and supervised traffic homicide investigations. Additionally, Jeremy led investigations into child deaths and sexual abuse cases. His dedication to the first responder community extends beyond these roles, as he has spent over a decade in fire service and has been a key advocate for mental health and wellness programs for first responders. Jeremy’s leadership and passion for supporting his peers through difficult times have driven his efforts as the President of the Peer Support Foundation.
